Walk to Market

We¹ve discovered that many people like to take historical maps on walks to discover the history of the landscape around them and understand what life must have been like for their ancestors. So it gave us the idea of encouraging people to walk to our local farmer¹s market in Hungerford and retrace the footsteps of their 19th century forebears who went to market every week on foot or by horse and cart.

Why not combine a visit to your local farmer’s market with a walk in the countryside and a trip back in time? It’s a chance to leave the car at home and stretch your legs as you walk or cycle to market in the same way people did for centuries before the motor car arrived. Take one of our historical maps with you to help you envisage the landscape of the past.

To help you relive the past, we are offering free maps of each area for a week before each market.
